Hello,

Is there a way to tell the age of the shocks based on the sticker on the side? See image.

Thanks,
Chuck

Regarding the 8L14 18080
8L14 indicates:
8 = 2008 model year
L and the number 1 = Expedition (L7 would be Navigator)
4 = indicates the Ford dept that designed this part
18080 = any item that falls into the 18000 thru 18125 range is a shock absorber.

Without you telling me its a shock or posting the picture, the part number suggests its a 2008 Expedition shock

Regarding the T407H
This is the date code the part was produced and this 'secret code' is not found on all Ford parts.
I do know that T stands for Truck division.
The H at the end indicates decade. E stood for the 1980's, F was 1990's, G is 2000's, and H is 2010's.
So your shock was built for Truck division sometime this decade.

The 407 part has me unsure. I believe the 4 indicates 4th year of decade H (2010, so that would be 2014) and leaves 07 to suggest July.

If I have this correct, the shock was built in July 2014 and was spec'd for a 2008 Expedition. Your best bet would be to stop by a Ford dealer parts department, find an older person who has been there longer than 6 months. He or she will be able to confirm 100%.

Sure just looks like the stock one to me, but that doesn't answer the question at all :p
