Hello,

I have had issues with my 4wd not working since I bought this one 2 years ago. I went through relays and fuses, cleaned all the contact points, and walah! It worked...for a time. Now it is not working again. I again checked the electrical, but when checking the switch itself I cannot find a pinout diagram for the switch. The only two pins with continuity are the center 2, and the ohms change when I switch from AWD to 4Hi and then to 4Lo. Am I to assume the outer 2 pins are only for input of 12 volts to the indicator light or????

Any help greatly appreciated.

Measure the resistance between mode switch terminals 2 and 3 while rotating the mode switch through all switch positions; refer to the following chart.

  • Mode Switch Position Resistance Range
    A4WD 3,700-4,100
    4WD HIGH 1,040-1,160
    4WD LOW 340-380

Thank you Bob. Based on the resistance I got, it isn't the switch. I finally found the "help me fix my 4x4 problem" thread you responded to. I am going to move on to the fuse 104, then the 37 pin connector, then the splice. Is the 37 pin under dash, or on the firewall if I might ask?

Ok, so I have power across 104, fuse is good, power at pin 37 on c-159, switch ohms out at 3809, 1106, 363.

Where to next? Do I move on to relays? I have no idea which relay to begin with. When this is all over I gotta get that service manual cd from you.

alright, I am assuming I found the correct relay since when I ran the part # it came back as transfer case. Gray, under top dash. Two green wires have power at all times. I am assuming I move on to the shift motor.Connector.JPG

Have you checked your GEM module? I had this issue with my mother's 98 and the gem was toast
