if you can't read that part number, you need to have an eye exam.
As for what the purge valve does, it's part of the evaporative emissions system. Failure of this could cause rough idle, low gas mileage, and your Service Engine light would come on.

....I just zoomed in and checked if the alphanumeric code I inferred existed and matched the part w/ google
Why did you remove it? A good rule of thumb, if you are not familiar with a repair, don't mess with it. Do you have CEL?
Pulled it and re installed for experimentation. Have had a long time vacuum issue where I lose vacuum boost to the brake booster when braking at speed or acceleration. I’ve replaced the booster and master cylinder and did a full bleed
