I got a length of 8g to jump the fuse box. There isn't meant to be any resistor between the fuse box and battery, right?

Just that cable alone should cost about $35 to $45 from ford The complete cable which would be for the Alt and the Starter would cost more.

See if you can find the open in the old cable.

Remove the cable from the fuse box and pull back towards the battery Tie a piece of string to the lug so it makes it easier to fish the new cable back in.

You will have to remove the battery and maybe a few other items to remove the old cable and to install the new cable. There is a rubber grommet that the cable goes thru in the firewall Check it also

As long as the gauge size is the same or a lower number you are good to go. Routed properly and with correct terminals there really isn't a need to buy a new cable unless you want to.

The voltage at the battery was not his problem If you had read the whole thread you will see the problem was the wire from the battery was open and when the OP made the repair everything worked

Glad you got fixed. What caused the battery to drain? You said you charged it. I am not sure how a heavy gauge wire, could "open". I have owned 30+ vehicles, never seen seen that before. If the wire had a break in it, why did battery voltage drop to 11 volts? That would be the same as disconnecting the battery, right? If it grounded out, you be calling the fire department.

Any vehicle that in the northeast with salted roads in winter can have corrosion issues with wiring. If holes are poked in the insulation that is an entry point for the salt water which will wick up the wiring and start the corrosion process. Given enough time it will reduce the gauge size of the wire and open with enough current flowing. Also the wire strands become brittle and break easily. Just need a little flex and that is all she wrote.
