This little fella and his mates were in three boxes of wild long grain rice o roni
i found one and discarded the whole box, found another in one more box and a third in the last box, all where of the sane dated and facility code....
just one weevil left me with a dilemma, how to choose the lesser to two weevils
To be honest if i cooked the rice as directed on the box, he never would have been found. But i cook mine in a cast iron skillet on the grill so i saute the rice in a bit of olive oil first than add the water and seasonings

rice o roni is sending me coupons now to replace the infested boxes

You are right that is creepy but if you had sauteed the rice you would have never known, just extra protein. :(

A lot of grain based products are susceptible to a bug called the Confused Grain Bettle.

I had a pantry infested with them one time.

I guarantee that we've all eaten them MANY times before without knowing and we'll continue to eat them without knowing.

I won't go too deep into a story from over ten years ago regarding wild mushroom gathering with friends...Well, we found a whole mess of king Boletus, and upon returning home, several had worms...A little wine (maybe more), and rationalizing, and the decision was made to blend em up for mushroom soup...Yum!...
