i have a 2002 expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer. I bought it a year ago and was just looking at possibly replacing tires. The tires on it right now are 255/75/17. When I look online this does not come up as a stock size anywhere. I’m assuming it was originally 265/70/17 and the previous owner changed to a different size. Should I go back to 265/70? Is the current size I have a problem since the diameter is a little larger than what should be on it?

Load wise the tire on their is right, that being said the 265/70 is oem size. You can also step up to a 275/65/17. That is known as a plus one option. Load capacity and keeping ride height the same is bottom line goal.

I have 285/70/17 on my 03 and they ride great. No fuel loss and still has the same power. No rubbing and fills the fender well.

Personal preference, but the bigger tires look more balanced imo. Plus, a little ride height helps clear bumps. Measure your clearance with a tape measure and you can figure out how large you can go without problems, leaving some space, of course.

Ideally 285/60r17 is the proper plus size conversion for the 265/70 oem tire size. But hey the taller 285/70 works as far as clearance. The only problem is if its 4x4 , it may effect the front differential, as some newer vehicles don't like change of tires, Hopefully yours works OK with taller tires.
