Trans issues with OD off.

2005 Expedition:

Transmission drives fine with over drive off. Slips in all gears with OD on. I used to have the lower gears, and just slipped on shifting from 4th to OD. Now it’s slipping in all gears and transmission fluid is leaking. No codes, no CEL, nothing but a slipping, unless I cut off overdrive. Could it be the servo clip? Fluid is starting to smell burned. Could it be filter issues. 183k miles. Had it for about 2 years now. Unknown maintenance schedule before.

Burnt fluid means the friction material is wearing off. Time for a rebuild.

Why couldn’t you say it just needed an oil change or tires rotated! Lol.

That’s what I was scared of.

Pull valve body and inspect for the damaged clip. Have a trans shop clean out the valve body and check the plate on it. I think that’s what’s wrong with mine. But if it’s slipping in all gears. It might be too late
