Anyone know if the 2018 Expy will support iPhone 8/X wireless charging? I know the Expy comes with wireless charging but there are several wireless standards and if they don’t match, they don’t charge.

For example my neighbor just bought an iPhone 8 and his 2017 Suburban which comes with wireless cell phone charging standard, will not charge his iPhone. But it will charge his wife’s old Samsung.

I know, one more detail to worry about. Well I’m sure if it doesn’t work on the 2018, because iPhones are so popular, Ford will make sure they get it right on the 2019’s. But it would be good to know if the 2018’s will support iPhone, if anyone out there knows. Thanks

Now I’m not so sure. The GM trucks (Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon) all have wireless charging trays that also support the Qi and another standard. However, these vehicles are not able to charge the new iPhone 8. My friend who has a new Suburban says it’s all over the GM forums now. Apparently there is some variably with the Qi standard, and Apple’s version is not compatible with the version GM implemented.

Man I hope Ford gets it right with iPhone wireless charging!

We’re good with wireless charging on the new iPhones. The article also explains why the 2017 and earlier GM vehicles aren’t compatible with iPhone wireless charging.

My problem with my ‘16 Silverado is that the wireless charging pad is to narrow to fit an iPhone 8 plus (or 6 or 7 plus). It charges the non-plus fine.

Hopefully the Expy setup with fit both.
