FordTech posted this video in May officially stating he recommends all owners of 5.4L 3V engines to switch to 5W-30 engine oil. Also harps on the importance of good maintenance practices on these (and all) engines. Good video thought I’d pass along.

I’ve been on 5W-30 the last two changes and have seen zero negative difference (not much difference in weight) except it runs a tad quieter when hot. I’m now at 166,000 miles.

I recall Blackstone Labs wrote a white paper a year or so ago noting no wear in these engines using 0W-20 oil.

I think the biggest reason Ford dropped down a weight to 5w20, was to slow the plugged up cam phaser issues, along with the cheezy oem oil pump issue. They were just trying to prolong the motors till hopefully they went out of warranty. Think how much they saved! On top of that, then they hit the customer with a pay ticket for the repairs.
