On her honda odyssey I can fit 3 in the 3rd row and two in the captain chairs in second row, on the expedition i cant fit 3 in the 3rd... only two, I can fit all 3 in the second row but it's far more annoying that way cause the second row seats only slide forward so much to allow access to third row.

Oh and the trick to it is you place all three car seats down on the seat then while they're in position you start strapping them down, if you strap two car seats down you wont have any play and adjustability to force fit a 3rd car seat so you have to keep them loose and keep them in position while strapping... its frustrating and aggravating and requires the smallest hands to fit between the car seats to attach the clips in and buckle the seat belts.

But to also answer your question I have a 5, 3.5, 2.5, 1 year olds and the 5th one is an infant 2 months old.

Does a 5yo in a 3rd row seat even warrant a child seat?

Cant see how the heck that is safer. Front seat and airbag nonsense, maybe, but what exactly does the child seat add in a 3rd row seat for a non-infant/non-toddler?

I haven't read through the entire thread incase it was mentioned, but how does the cranking sound? Does it sound off or normal? When the timing belt snapped in our 2004 MDX, it would crank but didn't sound the same. Maybe a belt issue? I doubt it since you did get it to start and now it won't, but you never know.... Alternators do go bad right out of the box. I've had this issue with one I bought from Autozone! Boy was I pissed.

As far as why you're putting $ into it? Why not!?! It's paid for, low mileage, it's a Honda, and you've had it long enough to know it's maintained, right?

Oh believe everytime anything happens to this honda I immediately check the timing belt, the current timing belt on it is 21k miles old but I never trust them anyways. But as far as i can see it was all & all a bad solder joint on the fuel pump relay, the alternator & battery being both 10+ years old were a coincidence that I caught them early... before it freezes to all hell in a couple months. According to my research the relay acts up on very hot days and the day the car wouldn't start was 103 degrees... I imagine the interior was hotter being packed in direct sunlight.

I also eventually found the issue with the ignition chime not working too and fixed that as well, yesterday I took a risk and drove it for 2 hours non stop and randomly turned it on and off to make sure before that I give it back to mama while my mind is at ease.

Personally I live by the theory that if I cant buy the car outright in full then I cant afford it, cars are the fastest depreciating assets and it'd be a waste of money to me.

Well for one its state law to have her in a child seat or booster seat depending on her weight, (she's still under 60 lbs so she has to stay in the car seat until then, booster seats are for 60-80lbs) but a more stringent law regarding this is "Mama's law" lol whatever keeps her happy and at ease I do

I really just fail to see what on earth said seat could possibly accomplish (no airbags to guard against there)... if it's the shoulder belt issue, well,
1) plenty of sedans don't even have shoulder belts in the middle seat in back, as I recall, so buckling the lap belt over the kid and the shoulder belt behind their back will accomplish the same thing,
2) there's shoulder belt height adjustment clips available for the full package,
3) depending on the child's height, there might well be nothing in whacking range anyway, assuming lap belt is buckled

On the flip side, if a child seat detaches, that could get ugly

I just don't understand these catch-all "oh won't you think of the children" examples of legislative hysteria

Module! I'm not a mechanic but I've had modules do what your describing on an F250 van, an old Escort and, yes, a Seadoo! Take it to the dealer, pay the $$$ and drive that Honda for another 100K miles! "Happy Trails, to you!"

@Adieu I get what you're saying, I can relate so to say but I think they're enforced "in case" of a high velocity impact or crash. They're strapped in a 5 point harness so they dont slip out being so small in a roll over and the sides are to support the necks in side and rear ending impacts. Trust me I'm too all for it cause worst comes to worst I lose one or they suffer a life long disability, it'll be depressing, expensive and time consuming!

Why not encase the kid in hypoallergenic memory foam and mandate crash helmets while they're at it?

Or require a CDL to transport children?

Both would be "safer"...

Btw, we should abolish schools while we're at it. Most everything bad that ever happens to kids occurs in school or on the way to/from school... well, unless it's a kid from a bad home. Best abolish homes and parenting, too.

Hey! I know!! We could just mandate turning em all over from birth to a militaristic gubmint institution!

Then we too could be an advanced and upstanding beacon of stability and patriotic pedagogy... like the Democratic Republic of North Korea~~

PS it is my firm belief that all this nanny state coddling nonsense is how we ended up infested by millenials. Consequence of a country full of playgrounds built like padded mental asylums and hovering parental neurosis.

Also the reason why Halloween has now been profaned into the national holiday for dressing up like strippers and contracting ******.

Prolly also why balding men now get carded when purchasing diesel injector cleaner to verify they're 18 (in a state that lets 16yo's DRIVE... lol. Then again, if posted signage is to be believed, technically prohibits them from refuelling their vehicles... and displays "children at play" signs outside their high school parking lot)

See the thing is I would do that too but I dont know where or who to take it to, I'm ok with DC voltage but 99.9% of my work is on 277/480 or 347/600V AC and 24-48VDC, until I can find a young or mid age gentleman who is a specialist on automotive electrical I'm on my own until then.... I'll do my best the principal's are the same it's when you get technical that's when I get confused
Well my father-in-law took it to a auto-electo that had been in business for like 60 years. just take it to shop with someone on staff with 10-20 years experience. I mean ALL they do is track down gremlins mang, I'd say if you dont get the heebiejeebies then roll the dice.

Statistics:emotions34:

"Car crashes are the leading cause of death for children older than 3 in the U.S. and cause another 179,000 child injuries each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, child safety seats cut death risk by 71 percent for infant passengers and 54 percent for toddlers between the ages of 1 and 4 - if they are used properly"

"
  • Booster seat use reduces the risk for serious injury by 45% for children aged 4–8 years when compared with seat belt use alone.
  • For older children and adults, seat belt use reduces the risk for death and serious injury by approximately half.4"
