This is the filter I bought. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/322447359503 It's really hard to find info on this transmission for some reason. This filter also looks odd. eBay says it's fits my car, Amazon says the same thing. When I bought this suv, I wrongfully assumed it was identical to the same year expedition and that it just had a few upgraded interior/exterior non powertrain related items. I still need a gasket. I'm worried to find that mine is not reusable even though as you guys have said, it probably is. I can't have the family hauler down if I can help it. b81707ce518aa4b32199d4f9c6228f77.jpg

If in doubt if it's right, swing by a dealer or parts store and pretend your buying one. O'Reilly usually has them on the shelf to open box. If at the dealer explain to the man/woman you'd like to see one if they wouldn't mind. Then say I'll be back, I've gotta pull mine. Nothing wrong with advanced scouting of parts.

Good call. Just went to their website. Again it's confusing me. It shows two different filter kits both apparently fit my 2008 navigator but are clearly different. Maybe they can look it up by Vin? I guess the dealer can tell me the correct part number 6e3479fd446c7b037d93d7e7af30b62c.jpg72207cca0e1f5356ee434e38d2ae61c9.jpg

Update:

I called the Ford dealer and ft177 is the correct filter for the 2008 navigator with the zf 6hp26 transmission. Apparently some 2008 came with the 6r80 which is very similar but uses a different style filter.

Also, I figured out for a detailed walkthrough on how to drop the pan and refill with trans fluid, the 2006 jaguar type s has the same transmission. They have a plastic pan with a drain plug instead of a steel pan, but the process is the same, drain oil, change filter, install new gasket, install pan, fill through the hole right about the pan until fluid comes out, run the engine until the fluid gets to 40c and then fill again until fluid comes out of the hole, that's it. Pretty simple. I also think the gasket that comes from the factory is reusable, but with 10 years on it I will have one on hand to replace it with depending on how it looks.

Thank you for the help!

The filter you have looks correct, looks like the same one I put in my 07’ Expedition, which was the same thing that came out.

I'd tend to agree with trainmaster, Ford ones work best. You can even pull old one out, spray out screen with carb, or brake clean and reuse. Clean the pan and magnet and your done. Trans filters take a long time to get dirty, since fluid is clean and red. Motor oil gets gunky and dirty, is why you change filter each time. It's just what I'd do, but replacing the filter is best
