Hi all - I'm going to need to update my profile bc I've upgraded from a 07 to 18:)

I transport all sorts of items (20' kayak, 14' stand up paddle boards and a huge rocket box) on my roof and was very happy with my stock cross bars on my 07. So of course I bought a pair of cross bars for my 18.

But to my surprise, the Ford OEM bars that I ordered only have 3 fixed mounting positions on the roof rail where my 07 had a flexible track, which in my opinion is much better. These new bars also sit further above the vehicle which causes additional wind noise.

My problem is that the 3 mounting positions don't allow me to position my rocket box rearward enough so reduce the amount of wind noise. I do have a sunroof which is part of the problem, but I'd still like to get a pair of adjustable aftermarket bars cross bars that will allow me to place them anywhere on the roof rail.

I'm curious if anybody has tried to fit one of these Rhino rack bars below? They claim to fit the exact width of the vehicles roof and sit only 1.5" above the factory raised rails. I like low profile as this will cut down on the wind noise. I also see the Thule EVO wing bar but these appear to sit quite aways above the roof rails.

If anybody has tried these, or has any insight I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I did go with this system and it works really well. I like them because they aren't as tall as the factory bars and I can move them anywhere on the load bars that I want. Rhino rack does make good products.

Can you post up some pics with the Rhino bars installed? Would like to compare the height to the Thule system (which seems to sit really high). Thank you.

still with the research before making a decision for my rig. Do anyone have the Rhino-Rack Vortex SX installed or any feedback about it?

This really come down to where you live and where you park in some cases. I am in the DC Metro and some of the parking garages have barely enough clearance for me with the stock bars. I looked at a few other options and they added 2 to 3 inches or more, which makes them non-starters for me. Also regardless of the bars, you do not increase the load capacity, so the cost was not worth the upgrade to me.
