So here's probably the same old question, I'm guessing. I have been using Motorcraft 5W-30 with a Motorcraft FL-820S filter. I buy 5 quart jugs two or three times a year (if I drive to FLA four) and there always a backup for that last .07 of a quart and the usual top offs. I always buy the oil and filter in advance so I can change on the spot when needed. Here be the situation, every time I go to buy a new jug the the price has gone up (what else is new). Use to cost $20.00 or less then goes up $2, then $3, now $4 locally now its $29.99 and have to drive to get it at that price now. My local parts stores no longer carry 5 quart jugs and If I want to buy it I need to get it by the quart and its 7.49 - 7.99 a bottle (almost double the jug price). Forget online pricing seen it as high as $80.00 (FOR Motorcraft OIL). Thinking of switch brands I can get locally or delivered by WallyMart (save that gas). Thinking either Mobil ! HM or Rotella Full Syn.

The question:
  1. Should I change filers as well, or keep running with Motorcraft filter?
Oil recommendations welcome.

Thanks in advance to all answer as usual.

I've been running Motorcraft 5W20 with the FL820S in my 07 Expy for years because it was cheap and available at Wallyworld. Unfortunately if you don't want to get butt ***** on oil prices, Wallyworld is the only game in town. There has been a couple of times where the 5 qt jug or a single qt wasn't available and I'd go with Pennzoil. Some people are going to become engineers in a minute and start talking about anti flow back valves, cardboard, cheap filter material, etc., but I've never had a problem with a Fram filter or other decent quality filters in any of my drivers. My Expy has 215k on the clock and runs like a champ. I change the oil per the dash light which lets me know right at 5k miles. I always was a 3K mile oil changer until my Expy.

I use full synthetic Motorcraft 5W-20 in 6 gallon "bag in box" for about $90. I don't think the brand of oil makes much difference.

But I would stick with the Motorcraft filters. They have an internal silicone check valve (that's the "s" in FL820S) that prevents backflow when parked. Not sure I'd trust another brand and they're cheap at Walmart.

Check out bobistheoilguy.com for oil recommendations. Castrol Magnatec gets good numbers on the Ecoboost engines. Not sure what is recommended for the 5.4 Triton.

Walmart has had the best price for years but you have to keep an eye on prices. They have been creeping it up and it is reight about at my braking point that I won't buy it anymore.
I will not pay 25.00 for full syn 5qt jugs!!!
23.99 is my limit. Or I will buy lower other brands possibly lower quality or not full syn.
BTW if you have a Rural King or maybe check their shipping or online sellers, they are the cheapest game in town on oil and full syn but only the Harvest King brand. It use to be Rural King and was bottled by Warren Oil, then it went to Citgo and then name change and now to another bottler.
If you use ANY brand full syn and change it every 7500 or less....you are almost certainly doing overkill on oil changes anyway. So many people do 5000 mile changes with full syn to be extra safe.
Many people have done UOA and the oil comes back at 78-80% like new or life left so this means it is actually being changed way to early. So I really don't think it will make much difference as to whether you use Mobil 1, Mobil 1 Extended Life, Pennzoil Ultimate, Rotella T6, Motorcraft, Kendal with Titanium, or Havoline syn, O'reilley Auto Parts house self named brand, Harvest King, or even the bottom of the barrel Supertech. It all far exceeds most vehicle manufacturers specs as most of them call for only a standard dino oil every 3500-6000 miles...
....and so many people are all about saying the manufacturer knows best and you should follow what they say.

Check Walmat.com and type 'oil clearance'. I found Valvoline Full Syn 5w30 case, 3- 5qt jugs for $15. I had order online and pick up in store. I originally thought it was a mistake. I bought 2, however when I went to buy more, about 4 days later it was gone.

I run 5w20 motorcraft. And the 820 filter. Oil Is right at 18 bucks and filter is 3 something from walmart. Usually cost me under 25 for my oil change. Now you all have me wondering if its going up in price. Just bought a 5 quart lady week was still only $18.

Thats right,I change with the TSB to use 5w-30. Found out the yesterday AutoZone will be carrying it for $29.99. I think I'll walk into a store and check stock, hate to waste gas though.

AutoZone (site not showing 5w-30 yet)

Advance Auto (does not carry Motorcraft in 5w-30) then its $7.50 a quart.
