I have a brand new the Platinum MAX with the heavy duty towing option. What is the forum consensus recommendation for the first oil and filter change? I know the manufacturer says 10000 miles, but there must be contaminants and other metal pieces floating around in the oil after the 1000 mile break-in period. Also, the same question for the transmission. The manual says not to haul my horse trailer until the car has 1000 miles on it. When I start to haul (5000lbs about 4 times a month, 2 hours each way) I believe I should have the transmission oil changed as well. I am thinking maybe after 1000 miles of hauling?

Does this vehicle have a transmission oil cooler?

Thanks for your help!!!

The HD towing package has an external transmission fluid cooler.

There are a lot of opinions about changing the oil & filter on a new engine, and the transmission fluid. Peace-of-mind is cheap, and so is an oil & filter change.

I would follow the HD or severe maintenance schedule in your vehicle owner’s manual.

Did you buy an extended Ford warranty? If so, ensure you follow the schedule and keep your receipts.

I change fluids (or have it done) according to the severe schedule, or even a little early, although I do not tow with mine or go off road.

I have a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4, purchased new.

Good luck on your new vehicle!

Thanks for the information! I appreciate your response. I didn't buy the extended warranty. My last Ford was a 1995 F-150 w/towing options (transmission oil cooler and 5.8L engine). That was over 25 years ago and she's still running strong but starting to show her age. When I start towing with the new Expedition, I'll put her in semi-retirement only towing locally.
