Hi all, well here it is Fall in western NY... and my A/C compressor starts that death grind noise!!! Turn on the A/C or Defrost and I hear metal to metal grind for a second...ughh

So , a new compressor is in order right? From what I can find 2007 Expedition EL Limited with 5.4 and rear air... should use a YCC355... first... can anyone confirm that... I would hate to buy the wrong compressor...

Second, looking on ROCKAUTO, and other sites... there are quite a few options.. Motorcraft, Denso, UAC, Fourseasons... Anyone got any input on ones to stay away from and ones to go with? There is a huge difference in price... do you really get what you pay for in a compressor?

Also, what other parts are required to change when I do this... some say change the condenser.. but since my compressor didn't implode do I need to? Should I replace the Drier and Expansion Valve too??? Will probably change the belt while I'm there... but anything else necessary

Thanks in advance for any input... I obviously know just enough to screw things up...not enough to insure they don't get screwed up!

Anytime you change the compressor it is a "given" that you also change the accumulator or drier. There is descant in them that has a life span. Plus it voids the warranty if you don't change them.

Always buy new and avoid the rebuilt compressors - there usually isn't much of a savings. I've had good luck with all the name brands. Avoid the cheapies.

Inspect the condenser for any "hits" of road debris then make the decision on whether to replace.

I'm in the same boat on my 07. I don't drive it because I have a 17, but I want to fix the a/c so I can sell it. It doesn't make any noise, but the compressor stopped working. I vacuumed and recharged it, but no bueno. At 217k I figure it's just time. I looked on eBay, but never got the warm and fuzzy on some of them.

Well, the lack of replys is dissapointing... but I guess its not really a cool subject (pun intended!)

Can anyone at least confirm the part #??? From what I can find 2007 Expedition EL Limited with 5.4 and rear air... should use a YCC355... I would hate to buy the wrong compressor...

Most of us on here go with the parts list the vendors provide when looking up replacement items provided we enter the correct vehicle to start with.

You don't need 10 members telling you the same thing.

As always ordering online is chancy. It takes time to arrive, then you've got to pack it up if wrong, or just to send core back. You might want to do your due diligence, and find a decent price locally. It may be a few bucks higher than online, but it's your parts guy/girls problem. I order online, but only when I'm 100 percent sure of fit. Just got some Anco wiper blades a few days ago. Price was great, and I knew they'd fit. Stamp is right, never get remans, buy new. It's a 4 hour job to r&r old one, sure wouldn't want 8!

You's be surprised what you can get by with just popping a used compressor off a filled system at junk yard (yes many still sitting this way) and putting in on your vehicle and charging it up.
Pumping it down is a big plus and you can rent vacuum pump for free at parts stores.

I have done untold numbers of compressor replacements over the decades without accumulator replacement (shhh don't tell the warranty police on me) and never had one fail.
I do replace the orifice tube if I can get to it decently.
Fords will always have some crap in its screen and they are cheap and once the system is empty it takes less than 10 mins to do.

I have seen too many high side restrictions on cars others have worked on and some that were factory original to not replace the orifice tube.
I rarely flush anything. I have blown air through a couple and used denatured alcohol on one years ago.
Always a give and take on flushing anyway.

I don't know or worry about what compressor fits it. I go by the pictures or take it to parts store or junk yard to match it up.

The stuff I have don't have ones you can look up.
I just put one on an SUV stretch limo in Sept. It was one they commonly use on school buses and mini buses. It is factory to Volvo big rig trucks but those are really add on too.
Sanden is who makes most of those and others copy the design and make new ones or reman them.
Had one just like it but double pulley instead on serpentine on a E series party bus a few years ago. Sometimes there is a sticker on them I can get numbers from but often it is a match up game.
Always add correct amount of correct oil which should be PAG46 on a Ford or this vintage.

I love it when people spend their time answering someone's questions and get no response from the OP...

I don't mind at all. I'm just on here to hear myself talk and to learn stuff and share info.
Mostly just to kill time though. Like sitting around talking on the phone or talking on a CB or ham radio.
