Cold start only. Overnight here in Colorado avg teens to 20s, yes expy is outside not in garage, it has to start for a good while before it turns over. But no problem all day after the initial start for the day. I have checked for leaky injector, changed spark plugs, and replaced MAF sensor. All motorcraft parts. Also cleaned the throttle body. I've tried to prime the fuel pump lines by turning it to the on position before starting and same hard start. So.... is there something im missing or is this just something I should expect with winter gas, cold, high altitude?

I maybe missed something in your post. But, what do you mean hard start? How many cranks before it starts? How long before it fires after turning over?

Could you explain a bit more?

It acts as if it's going to start but doesn't after 2 sec, continues to crank for another 5 sec or so then starts up. Thick White smoke comes out exhaust for about 5 seconds then clears up. Idle then comes down to normal.

I had a similar problem. But other symptoms accompanied it.

The problem I had was that it took three cycles of the key before it would start. Also, it felt massively underpowered. There would be a lag from take off and wouldn’t respond well when I wanted to pass.

The issue needed up being two fold. I first changed the spark plugs because they were very worn. They looked like it had been over 100k miles since they were last changed. But, it still had an issue. Finally, I changed the fuel pump and boy!! It felt like I had upgraded the motor because it would take off from a stop and I could pass other vehicles when needed and it would start up the first time every time!!!

The real issue was that it had low fuel pressure because the fuel pump was failing.

Would you only have the problem in the morning first start or would it do it throughout the day?
