How to use this forum effectively

I have a few questions.
When I type in the search box, how do I need to format the words? if I search for gas tank, it returns all posts with gas, gas tank and tank. how do I specify both words , gas and tank but not either.

How do I private message someone?

When I do a search is it only searching in the forum I'm currently in or does it search all forums?

Put the subject you are searching for in "", "gas tank" then chose the specific forum or the entire site in the box below.

I've found that capitals matter too.
Gas Tank and gas tank are not equal.
