I have a 2015 Ford Expedition Platinum, and I am looking for a new bumper pull camper. I know the Expedition is rated at 6,600 max and the trailer I’m looking at will be right there once it’s loaded. It will have a WD hitch and sway control included. I don’t normally drive more than 1-2 hours with a camper. I’m just looking to those more knowledgeable than me to find out if this will be safe and ok for the truck long term. Sorry to ramble, I’ve only pulled a pop up trailer with it so I’m a little paranoid. Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!

You will be fine. You have one of the most powerful and capable full size SUVs on the market. If you listen closely you'll actually hear the truck giggle at 6600lbs. If you listen to some tow nazis who frequent these boards, you should trade the Expedition for a Peterbilt and hire a escort service each time you tow it. (not that kind of escort service, but who am I to judge)

I've been using this ladder for years. According to some DIY website geniuses, I should be seriously injured or dead by now. Haven't weighed under 200 since high school and regularly sit on top of the silly thing. Safety first, I get it, but I'm not renting a scissor lift or setting up scaffolding to install a ceiling fan - sorry OSHA.

Thanks for the reply. Any thoughts on the trailer being 32'? I've heard it's too long and would feel like it's dragging the Expedition around.

I used to tow a 33' 7600 GVWR trailer with a 2003 Expedition and it was just fine, yours is alot newer and the Ecobeast is a great motor. You will be just fine! Make sure you get a good weight distribution hitch and brake controller. I recommend a Equalizer E4 and Prodgy brake controller. Depending where you are, I'd sell you a 1000/10000 E4 for ALOT less than new, I used it a year and a half before we bought a bigger trailer.

Long or short wheelbase? If it's the short wheelbase, you may want to rent an trailer thststhat length and see how it feels.

I don't have an EL so I assume it's the short wheelbase.

I suggest renting and seeing how it feels. I have an EL with a 33 ft trailer and it's stable unless the winds are high, in which case you can feel the wind causing the rig to wiggle. Short wheelbase might have a harder time with a trailer that length.

I pull a 33' trailer with my 09 Expy EL. Weighed it once and the trailer is about 9000 (max of 10k). Pulls fine with a husky centerline CL and a Tekonsha controller. I did add a transmission cooler since we didn't originally have the tow package. I can only imagine the 3.5 would do a way better job.

If you have the factory brake controller and the 7-plug in the back, you have the heavy duty tow package and can tow 9200 lbs. That being said, your target trailer empty weight should be closer to 6500-7000 pounds empty for a comfortable tow. Buy a decent weight distribution kit and you'll have no problems.

my 2010 XLT has the max tow package, and my trailer is about 5100 LBS empty. Figure 6500-7000 loaded. Pulls great with a WDH
