Strutmasters used to offer a Premium conversion kit option with Eibach springs. American Air Suspension, as well but those options seem to be no longer available.

I read that all or most sub-$500 kits are too soft or the quality just isn't there.

Has anyone tested the Dorman kit (with red springs) for $572 on Rockauto?

Otherwise, is my best bet to buy some OEM struts and install them with new Bilsteins, pads etc.?

I'm trying to do this on an '04 2WD Navigator so if I have to replace the torsion bar with OEM Expy struts, please let me know.

Thx!

I can't speak to other options, but I went with the KYB strut assemblies for my 2011 Expy. I will say they seem a bit soft. Seriously thinking about going back to stock Motorcraft parts.

I have no info on the Eibach springs for ya. 5 years ago I swapped out the high cost air struts on my '04 with Rancho RS9000 struts. I have used RS9000 shocks on all of my previously lifted trucks with outstanding results and the results using the struts has been just as good. The Expy certainly handles better with the springs than with air bags. More importantly I don't have to listen to that dang compressor at every start anymore.

I am very comfortable recommending the Rancho struts, even though Rancho says they won't replace the air suspension.

I buy almost nothing with a Dorman label on it. Just had to many very poor quality parts from them. The one exception over the last several years was a '00 Ranger arm rest mount.

Agree with @whtbronco. I put the rancho struts on mine, and I'm pretty happy with them so far. Nice to be able to adjust the dampening as well.
Can you guys send me a link? I didn't see an option on the Rancho site for '04 Expeditions.

So I contacted Rancho and they confirmed these won't fit on Navigators. Apparently conversion kits differ somewhat from the OEM Expedition struts. I ordered a Strutmasters Premium kit as is. The sales person claims they switched to black springs because most people didn't like red but they're also not consistently using the same brand springs and struts on all kits.
