Thank you @LokiWolf , and I'll be looking for your write up on 3.4 since I've seen you pop up as the expert on this all over the place, which I appreciate very much.
Just to be clear that I'm doing my best to be a good citizen, I did spend quite a lot of time looking in all the various sync...
@duneslider that's the most recent tsb I can find using the search terms "nhtsa technical service ford vct"
I'm about to call the dealer where I bought the expy and I'll find out what their service dept. says. I figure that's the easiest place to start ...
Speaking as a computer hardware and software engineer of some 30+ years experience, a software fix can not repair existing mechanical damage. It could prevent the damage, and it might be able to cover up the damage, but it positively cannot fix damage. That's impossible.
I second what @Going_Going_Gone says about brakes. When upgrading the engine and suspension for a race bike, we always upgrade the brakes as well. Believe it or not, brakes are just as important for going fast in racing as power. The better your brakes, the more you can use the power.
I’m going to guess the software update that’s now out is part of the TSB. But other posters make clear that the software update doesn’t fix the rattle. Mine has the first version of the software update and it’s rattling, although not nearly as much as the video kyle r posted that I just listened...
At the risk of doing this inappropriately, I'm copying the post I made in another cam phaser thread. With a TSB on the NHTSA web site, it certainly seems like you should be able to get a Ford dealer to do the warranty repair as it states in the TSB. Try another dealer. It's only 10 hours plus...
Aloha,
As promised, I went out with the big expy yesterday. My answer to the question is along the line of what @tommyddsr said above. It depends on your application.
Where I went off-roading was Bunce School Road: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/bunce-school-road and...
Aloha,
I find this an interesting perspective, as I still have my 2012 F 150 FX4 luxury model - super crew with the short short bed. At 260k miles (bought it used with 250k) we replaced the engine due to cam phasers failing (hence my interest in the other cam phaser threads). So it's got a...
Aloha,
This TSB seems to suggest it is supposed to be repaired under warranty. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10180531-0001.pdf
Which I will be asking for as my new to me 19 is making the ticking noise.
The TSB says it affects vehicles built before 10/31/19, and includes some 2020’s...
My new to me 19 max limited came with the maximum upgrade package which sadly includes the 22" wheels. I'll be taking it on a sort of rough forest road tomorrow and we'll find out what happens. I'm leaving the skirt on the front air dam as well so I'll be going slow.
As far as colorado roads...
Tnis explains why the app is showing an FSA for 21N03 for cam phasers, and they had already done a cam phaser update at the dealer before I picked it up.
If I or anyone else gets the hard info on the differences I'll be looking for it. I'll have to call the dealer tomorrow.
I have noticed that the hatch close button is a bit touchy after some dirt driving. I notice it's not easy to get that area washed, even with a high pressure wash pointed at the gap between the hatch and the body.
I have come to accept that dirt will get into anything that doesn't have a rubber...
I have to admit that once the vehicle's full warranty expires, I'm too much of a geek not to investigate and consider the update. :-)
Thank you for the information!
Also, I'm a little jealous of the platinum. I wanted one, but they are hard to come by these days. I really like the interior...
FYI: I just looked at the log file on the USB key and there are entries there that make it appear that the file system is somehow accessed over the CAN Bus network. I don't have a service manual or schematic or anything, but if the USB ports are a module on the CAN Bus rather than directly...
