    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

Yeah it's leaking at the top radiator hose. Pressure is building up and coolant is squeezing under the band clamps. Would leave puddles everywhere I go... Going to do a leak test to see if I have a blown head gasket.. but it runs great!

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

Well I figured out the front heat issue... and this is silly... Not enough coolant! lol.. Every time I checked it cold it was at the full line, then one day it was super low. Threw about a gallon in there and the heat came back a little... Checked it the next day and it was still low, threw...

    Excessive Pressure

I will try to run out and get a leak down tester from napa tomorrow. and if it's negative I will replace the thermostat and see what that does.

    Excessive Pressure

I threw a napa radiator cap on with no difference. I could try the thermostat when I get some time in the next few days. I flushed the system about a month ago when I thought my heater core was clogged. Has fresh coolant in it (other than smelling). It's losing coolant, but I think it's from...

    Excessive Pressure

That would be neat if that's all it was. I don't think the tstat has been changed in 6+ years. But if it was stuck closed, wouldn't it overheat? If I get some extra time tomorrow, I'll go to napa and pick up another tstat and see if that helps.

    Excessive Pressure

So I had a radiator hose leak and no front heat up until this week. I threw another hose clamp on the top radiator hose at the radiator which has stopped that leak, but now the hose is hard as a rock and is leaking where it connects to the thermostat housing. Way too much pressure. And to top if...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

I replaced the top hose and clamp recently. Might just have to bite the bullet and take the thing into get diagnosed. Living in an apartment makes it tough to work on this thing.

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

So I was looking at the maintenance records. (bought this rig from my folks) Looks like in 2008 they took the truck to the dealership for the same leak out of the top of the radiator/hose connection and possibly bad heat. In 2008 they replaced the radiator, tstat, top and lower radiator...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

Thanks for the tips guys. I haven't had a chance to mess with it recently with the cold weather, and busy with classes. I replaced the top radiator hose, and radiator cap just to knock out some older parts. But coolant is still being forced out where the top radiator hose meets the radiator...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

Ran some radiator flush for a bit today. Did not seem to unclog the heater core if that is the issue. But I did get some nice nasty coolant out of there. Refilled with green for now. Also replaced the top radiator hose to hoping that the old one was getting wimpy. When it warms up I'll...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

I should also note when I checked the radiator hose there was a muddy/rusty color film inside. Not super thick, but definitely there. I think I'll try to flush the front heater core tomorrow and see what that does. Haven't followed the heater core hoses yet, but I hope there is an easier spot to...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

So I haven't added any coolant in the past couple days, and it hasn't leaked. It seems to only leak until the coolant gets a little under the "Add cold" line in the reservoir. If I were to add coolant, it would leak from the radiator/hose until the reservoir reaches below the add line again...

How many miles do you have on your Gen 1?

I have 150,250 on my '98 XLT 4.6. Other than a coolant leak and a front heater issue, it runs great. Hope to keep it for a long time.

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

It's very possible. I took the top hose off the radiator and inspected both for cracks, but I could have missed one. I was thinking about replacing both the radiator and hose anyway since it wouldn't be too terribly expensive. This weekend I'll pull the hose again and inspect it more closely...

    Coolant Leak / Heating Problems

I agree with you that the leak is the start point. Not sure how to tackle it. Radiator, hoses, and tstat were all replaced in 2008, but that doesn't mean something isn't broken now. 1. The temp gauge goes right to the middle after a bit of driving like it should. And the heat from the back...
