I just came in from working under it. The TC was in 4L. I was able to manually shift it back into 2H. The problem now is that while the shift motor is turning while it's not attached to the TC, it's not turning to where 2H should be. Are these motors known/able to jump positions if they got...
Yeah, I'm thinking more and more the TC now. I can hear the clicks in the dash from the relays like it's trying to shift but not doing it. Was a bit strange as it showed me in 4x4 then it would click and flash between A4WD and 4x4 every couple of seconds. When I lightly tapped on the shift...
Hi everyone. I have a 97 expy, 5.4L. My issue is that I got it stuck in snow last night. I was turning my switch to select 4h and 4L to try and get it out...and spinning the tires. It was acting like it didn't want to shift between 4x4 modes so I stopped and pulled the battery cable. We got it...
Hi everyone,
I have a 97 expedition with the 5.4L engine. Having issues with the 4 wheel drive and have a question. I have a basic understanding of how the system works and what component does what. The issue I'm having is that at first, it didn't want to shift into 4H or 4L at all. Except in...
I'm sorry for posting this here but I'm having the same kind of problem with my 97 Expedition with the 5.4L. It's coming from the passenger side though. However, my question here is about the lifters. These engines have overhead cams so I thought that did away with the whole lifter/push rod set...
Sorry, I should be more clear. I do mean the wiring connection that goes into the clutch. It's towards the top, passenger side of the truck at about the 10 o'clock position (looking at the compressor from the front) and the hoses run right over it. Hard to reach down and still see what I'm doing...
I did some checks and do have voltage at the low pressure switch. Also, the air gap on the clutch seems to be fine. Nothing is bent or out of shape and it doesn't look like it's ever been changed. I would like to put 12V directly to the compressor terminal but it's in a location where I can't...
Hi everyone,
So, I picked up a used expedition and finally got her running good so now it's time to move on to the other things...namely the AC. I have very limited tools and also very limited funds but here's what I've done so far....
Pulled the connector loose from the low pressure switch...
I was, I'm retired now though. 22 years on the Dallas FD and then moved to North Idaho to get away from the brutal summers. Still hot here in the summer but no where near the humidity that Texas has. My next project for this rig is actually the AC...but I have that narrowed down to the...
Thanks for the tip. I'll keep a very close eye on them. So far, I've driven about 250 miles and no problems. Temp gauge stays right where it should be.
Thanks to everyone for giving your input as well!!
Problem solved. I pulled the old water pump this morning and actually found that the impeller had broken off the shaft. It was laying in the hole in 2 pieces. Cleaned everything out and then flushed the system to hopefully get anything else out of the system, installed new pump and now feel...
I just checked the hoses, as far as I can tell, they're not collapsing. I will pull the water pump this weekend to take a look at it and see if the fins are corroded.
Hi everyone,
So I have a 97 expedition with the 5.4L and am having a problem figuring out an overheating problem. Mainly, I'm just asking for some advice from those of you that know these engines better than me. At first I thought it may be a stuck thermostat so I pulled it out and found very...
