The information I'm getting from other sources is that if I don't use the MIL Elminators.. it will not only throw a code.. but cause it run rougher and use more gas thus impacting my MPG.

It's possible.. but the burn footprint will be smaller and my goal was to possibly sheath it with a larger pipe creating an air gap so again it doesn't get hot enough to burn.
With the cat removed I can try several low cost patches with the extra gained room.

My 99 started this also about 6 months ago.
I figured it was a fuel pump or fuel filter.. but I changed the filter out and that didn't stop anything.
I did notice that if I leave the key on for a few seconds before I start it.. it does reduce it..

Recently put my 1999 Expedition 4x4 out to pasture. Wife didn't like the wife puff from the oil leak behind the pass head on the cats.
So She is now riding a new Expedition 4x4.
