How many miles on your 2nd Gen Ford Expedition?

Scrolling through this post, and updating my ‘05 mileage: 154,200. Replaced the original brake pads/rotors @141k. I’m on my 4th set of tires, replaced all of the struts @ 98k (one was leaking). It’s still a good ride. I’m looking at small areas of corrosion to sand & prime, and considering a...

    5W-20 Ford recommended oil

I’m running full synthetic 5w30 since I went to the high flow/pressure oil pump when I replaced the roller followers, lash adjusters, timing chains/gears/guides, and the VCT components at 100k. My last oil change, the dealership in Hagerstown, MD put in 5w20, contrary to my request, and I had to...

    Motorcraft or Akebono ceramic pads?

My ‘05 original pads and rotors lasted 141,000. I had the dealer replace them a year ago. I figured if the OEMs went that long, and the brake dust hasn’t annoyed me thus far, I wouldn’t experiment with other brands. Plus, the replacement pads have a lifetime warranty from Ford.

    Cranking Issues

I’ve had slow cranking issues twice with occasional no starts. Both times, it was a slow starter. Replaced the starter, all was good. I have a 2005 XLT, 144k.

    Brakes help

I’d have the codes for the ABS pulled. My ODBII scanner won’t communicate with my ABS. Just had both local dealerships pull the codes for my ABS warning light. One dealership started the scare tactic of bad master cylinder & booster. The other tried scaring me about bad wheel bearings. It wound...

Start battery finally gave out, what’s the preferred replacement?

My first Motorcraft battery went 6 years. My second Motorcraft battery went 5 1/2 years. I’m on my 3rd Motorcraft one now. They’ve been around $200 to $250 installed. I figure if the OEM lasts that long, why gamble? I’m using the same theory on the brakes. I’m finally getting pads & disks all...

    Roller followers

David E, I don’t do Facebook, so I couldn’t open your attachment. I replaced all of my roller followers and lash adjusters. My engine had the early production parts that were redesigned.

    Roller followers

The rear intake roller follower on #2 failed on mine. It started ticking around 60-70k, and became a full blown knock around 99k.

    Cleaning/Restoring Window Strips

I hit min with the Megiuer’s ultra black whenever I black the other plastic. Looks good, until I have to do the plastic again. Usually every couple of months.

    5 tire rotation

I’m getting ready to re-tire. Yeah, I couldn’t resist that pun. In considering the new tire purchase, I remember the 5 tire rotation I used to do on my ‘86 CJ-7. I got 60k out of the Goodyear Wranglers (twice) Since the spare wheel on an expedition doesn’t match the 4 on the ground, I’m...

    Brake job

Thanks for the replies. Next Friday, the local dealership will be replacing the brake rotors & pads with the same ones that have lasted 135k. I thought about drilled/slotted rotors, carbon fiber/ceramic pads, etc. But in the end, the Ford stuff has gone this far, and they quoted $800+tax for...

2006 - Limited Expedition - Ticking sound that speeds up when accelerator is pressed - and lack of power

I had 2 loose spark plugs (installed by the stealership for $700) that caused a loss of power and “exhaust “ noise on the driver’s side. I also hah an internal tick for about 30k miles before it grew to a knock. That wound up being a siezed roller follower bearing on the #2 back intake valve...

    Transmission question

I’ve had my flushed twice by the dealership. My ‘05just rolled up 134k. You could probably try a fluid flush from the dealership to see if it improves anything.

    aftermarket key fob

I just got the 2 keys programmed at the stealership. $130 + tax. They work great. Total in: $158 for 2 keys & fobs programmed.
