Has anyone ever added the USB cable to the Ford SYNC system to enable "USB2"? Can you confirm that the SYNC module is under the console on a 2012. Where/How did you route the cable? Since it's supposedly under the console does that limit or expand my option for accessing it?

If you do it, post it up, I don't think it's in the same spot but I would love to do it. Thanks.

I found the following write-up for an F-150.

Ford Sync USB2 Mod - Adding a Harddrive into your vehicle

I would guess that the Expy would be very similar, although I haven't ever thought about modding it. I may, now, though!

Thanks! I saw this write up. From the best I can tell the SYNC module for the 2012 Expedition EL sits below the center console. It's been COLD since I bought the truck so I haven't been too motivated to rip things apart yet.

But from all my research there is a 2nd USB port that is only accessible on SYNC via voice command - "USB2". Nice little, mod.

I just did the mod tonight, and it took me about two hours to complete.

The module is located under the base of the storage compartment of the console, and you need to disassemble the entire console to access it. Come prepared with some plastic pry tools, a grabber, flashlight, these sockets: 7mm, 8mm, and 7/32", some extensions, and some patience. There's another thread that has a link to a good partial disassembly instruction manual, but you'll need to completely remove the side and back panels, and unbolt the main bracket assembly to access the module. Note that the rear panel is bolted to the sides with two 7/32" bolts at the top that are hidden by the rear cupholders, so you need to remove them as well.

The mod works perfectly, but I can only access it through the voice command. The plus side is that I have full display control on my iPhone, so I don't need to mess with Sync's kludgy menu system to access my music!

Do you have any pics of the final result? Is there just another USB port on the sync module you just plug another usb extension in to?
