So Im looking to change oils possibly from motorcraft full synthetic to either mobile 1 or mobile 1 EP or penzoil ultra. The mobile and penzoil both have outstanding reputations and are much cheaper then the motorcraft full synthetic. So in an effort to save some cash and possibly improve the oil in my truck (worst case scenario keep it the same quality) Im here researching what yall have used in yours.

Please no my oil is better, just state which of the ones listed you use mileage and uses and how you like the oil. Thanks yall!

I had been using Mobil1 5W30 in a couple of boosted vehicles that were notoriously bad on oil.

One was a Mazda CX7 sludge monster that was turbo and DI (fuel contamination issue). The Mobil1 was great, and when the CX7 needed some warranty work for their faulty VVT actuator (which would take out the timing chain, which would take out the whole topend), the whole top end was completely clean, no sludge, no varnish.

The other engine was a Subaru Legacy GT 2.5L turbo, that had a rep for blowing turbos due to sludge build up. I never had any engine problems in that vehicle (the rest of the car was a POS). I never had the valve covers off that Boxer engine, but if anything like the Mazda, I am sure it was clean.

My friend uses Mobil1 in his race car, a LT1 powered Firebird. The engine has over 2000 race miles and the top and bottom ends look brand new.

We bought the 2010 Expy EL used, and the dealer had just changed the oil. In December, I am going to do an oil/filter change, and switch over to 0W20 Mobil1. The 0W20 meets Ford specs for 5W20, and the other advantage of 0W20 is that it is thin enough at startup to actually give some initial startup protection. Check out BITOG, but there is a big write up about the advantages of 0W20 on startup, even in warm climates (I am in Texas, hard winter starts are not an issue).

I am sure Mobil1, PP, PU, etc. are all great oils, but I've seen Mobil1 first hand so I'm sticking with that.

Yeah I have been there and posted a similar thread on BITOG but got the "it doesnt matter at those OIC" statements. Reason Im asking here is the motorcraft is doing great in my truck but the most expensive oil I have ever bought and Im wondering what everyone's results are with the modular and mobile and pennzoil top shelf oils. Honestly when I worked for ford we always used the synthetic blend on literally everything and the modular engines didnt give a damn what was in it.

I will look and see about what the price difference is on pennzoil ultra and M1 EP and regular and go from there. I love how M1 is abundant everywhere so its easy to get oil, but with a walmart right down the street its easy enough to get whatever I need. As for the Valvoline I use that in my Jeep grand cherokee (high mileage dino) and everything has been perfect but that was because the engine had some rough miles and I didnt want to switch to synthetic at the time due to not having the time or money to deal with leaks or issues that arose.

Thanks yall for the comments and keep them coming as long as they are constructive and not bashing one oil and putting another on a pedestal.

M1 is $25 for 5 qt jug. So $75 for 15 qts (enough for two oil changes). Walmart price.

PU is $26 for a 5qt jug, and is supposedly a better oil, the BITOG guys seem to love it. May be a little harder to find.

In my turbo cars, I ran the M1 and kept the OCI to 3000 miles. My plan for the Expy is just 2x a year M1 since we only put ~10k/year on it. Like I said, I've seen the M1 first hand, I like the bottle design for pouring, and it's a little cheaper.

M1 gets my vote and goes into everything I own. Over the past 10 yrs, I've had multiple Fords from new and they all received M1 at 3000mi and then I stretched interals to 6-7000 miles. Can't beat autozone when the special comes around, 5.25 qt jug and M1 extended performance filter...$35

I'll probably get crap but I always use Castrol GTX 5w-30 iny navi. It has 220,000 miles and been doing great. I use Castrol Synthetic in the wife's MZ3. Just an oil I've always used.

Now in my dirt car we run Valvoline Race 50w. Motor is always taken apart for checking and everything looks brand new.

I know its none u listed but thought I'd throw them in. Always been happy with them.

Never heard bad about M1. But wouldnt run Pennzoil from just other peoples experience.

But it could of been there fault and not the oil. Most oils are about the same any more besides Lucas, am soil or others like that.

I would just pick one u feel comfortable with and run it.
