It is different in CA, with the CARB certs needed... but can anyone break down the supercharger options available by generation for the Expedition?

I have a 1st gen (a '97 5.4) and am curious, but I am sure a brief summary of the topic for all three generations would be helpful...

I don't think anyone is going to want to take that on. It's a lot of info. You'll have to decide what kind of blower you want. From there look at the kits available. Usually the smaller blowers are CARB legal. Like for Procharger the P1 is usually legal, but the D1 is not. You might be able to get away with a Lightning swap since it's a factory set up.

...

I hear ya...
Maybe just a list of vendors that actually offer an Expedition kit, plus any Ford options like the Lightning blower...

Here in MD they just plugged into the OBD port with my 2000 expy. Custom tune and all the pcm tells their reader that there is no issues and it passed fine. :) I am running cats and have the rear O2's turned on. It would pass a sniffer test as well.

They never open the hood... after all its an Expedition. Who would modify it. lol

The lighting setup is a lot more complicated than just bolting on a blower. There is a lot of supporting hardware necessary to complete the install as well as needing a custom tune. It is also designed for the PI headed 2v 5.4.

This I know... been through the whole modular V8 thing with the Mustang in the past. PI swaps are common there, and of course the right sized injectors and fuel delivery and such is required.

Thanks, though. Never know what someone doesn't already know.

The supporting infrastructure is why I am hoping to find upgrade kits. Found a procharger kit and a Vortech kit, so far. Not bad options at $5-6K for intercooled complete kits.

You can do way better than that price wise. As Yoda would say "patient must you be"

You should be able to score a used bracket for either a PC or vortech kit on fleebay dirt cheap. It's the little sh&/ like the crank pulley the tensioner that get harder to find.

The head units are a dime a dozen used. Do your self a favor and bypass the little centrifugal and go straight to a D1 minimum or a Vortech Ti trim.

The s trims and P trims are and should have never been offered for anything bigger than a v6! The T trim and d trims are even on the questionable side for making killer power.

Ebay on any given day has scrap pieces listed for these kits. Good luck and please never pay full retail or anywhere near it.

Centi blowers are similar to turbos as it is best to size it to the application. Well all type of blowers really.. You may make more power under the curve running an S trim vs a J trim for example at only 8 psi boost. They each have different efficiency maps or range where they perform best. Rpms, boost, cfm's. If someone can't understand the maps best to talk to the manufacturer to determine the best size blower for your application.

Larger turbos generally make more power but will result in larger turbo lag so if you are only running say only 6 pounds of boost which is better?

I ran an S-trim on my mustang @ about 12 psi peak boost and loved it. Ran 10.46 @ 129mph on drag radials. The power was immediate and throughout the rpm range.

Unless you build the motor to handle it and plan on running higher boost I think you would be better off with a smaller appropriate sized blower. Of course buying used you work with what you get and cost is a factor.
