I'll probably get flamed for this but are there any other forums regarding Expeditions that have more traffic? Reason why I ask is because I have a second car and am on a different forum. There are literally hundreds of posts each day just for my generation of this second car. It seems that the posts on this forum are few and far in between.

I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find additional forums. You may also check on the F150's since they are similar.
We are in a slow period right now - which I consider a good thing. It would indicate the members are enjoying the Expy instead of repairing it.
Summers on the forum are normally a/c oriented while winters are heater cores..give it some time, it will pick up.
FYI - you will only get flamed if you deserve it. In this case it isn't needed.

How are F150s similar? The are not based on the F150. I wish they were but they are not. The Expedition and the Navigator are supposd to be similar

There are many parts that the two models share. You can look on rockauto to see what they are for your generation.

I have the first gen - most engine, cooling, climate and driveline are the same.

I checked on fordparts.com for the hoods for a 2010 F150 and Expedition - both have the same part number.

Plus - we all know if it is on the internet it must be true - bonjour
From Wikipedia:
"The Expedition is based on the Ford F-150 pickup and shares various components. "

Where are you getting information stating that they are not based on the F150's?

I loked and of course I can't find where I saw it but it I remeber I was looking into adding Remote start and I kept reading how the F150 basically had all the wiring factory installed and it was just a matter of plugging a remote start module in and getting the Ford delaer to enable it. I found out that the Expedition did not have the ability to do that. And I read that the Expedition and F150 was not based off of each other.

I had an Excursion and that was very obviously based off the F250. most parts were interchangable, mods and hacks works on the Excursion, etc. It would be nice if the Expedition was exactly like the F150 in thos ways.

I'm renting a F150, 3 years newer than my Expedition, because Expedition was was hit and in the body shop. The F150 is a real nice truck and I think the Expedition would be perfect if it had the same interior and towing features as the F150.

I checked on fordparts.com for the hoods for a 2010 F150 and Expedition - both have the same part number.

16612 means "hood" in FordParts'ism. The numbers & letters before (and after) 16612 are the important ones.

2010 F150 hood is 9L3Z-16612-A
2010 Expy hood is 7L1Z-16612-A
2010 Fusion hood is BE5Z-16612-A
2010 Focus hood is 8S4Z-16612-A
2010 Explorer hood is 6L2Z-16612-AA
2010 Shelby hood is AR3Z-16612-AXX
2010 Taurus hood is AG1Z-16612-A

With that, 7L1Z does not always mean "Expedition" in other Ford parts categories. Often it does, but not always. Likewise, our Expeditions are full of 9L3X F150 parts.

I wish a 2010 F150 hood fit a 2010 Expedition, we'd actually have some aftermarket options available.

Can't speak for the later gen's but the 1st generation expedition has a lot in common with similar year F150's. There are obvious difference due to one being an SUV vs a Truck but I have gotten a lot of helpful info from lightningrodder as far as my build and modifications.

Somewhat depends on what year expedition the op has and what exactly he may be looking for.
