New guy here... I am having trouble tracking down a bad rattling noise from the front drivetrain. Sounds like driver side. It sounds like some major component is loose when I hit a bump or driving on a rough road. I replaced lower ball joints, shocks and struts a year ago, but the rattle preexists that. When in the air, the tire doesn't shake in either the 12-6, or 9-3 o'clock directions. I have been under this truck more times than I can count but can't find anything loose. The truck itself is an '06 Expedition King Ranch 4x4 with 171,000mi.
I may be so used to it, but it doesn't seem like the ride quality is affected. Though, it is one of those noises that is gut wrenching and makes me think that my wheels will fly off.
I am sure that I am overlooking something big trying to find this. If anyone has a suggestion or has experienced this before, any information would be appreciated.
Thank you all. I have been using this site as a guest for a couple of years and your posts have helped me immensely.

The only thing left is the cv joint and axle. Examine the drivers side cv joint assembly for tear of the rubber boot and tap the shaft with a hammer to see if you can replicate the noise.

The sway bar end links break down. I had the same issue and changed front and rear sway bar links and noise gone. May also want to change out the sway bar bushings. Just my experience. Couple other things to look at cracked spring and upper control arm.

When I had the noise I checked many times under the truck as well and could not find anything loose and you probably wont our trucks are heavy so you need suspension to unload to find anything loose.

And welcome!!
