Mines on the transmission pan. Again mines a 2000 4x4 with the 4 r100 trans. Is yours a 97?

Sorry got you mixed up with the guy that asked what fluid. Yours is 2003? I could be wrong but you should have the same trans as mine. Depending on 2 or 4 wheel drive, I think they had 4r70 or 4r100. Theirs a website, you can punch in your vin, and it tells you all the info, of your vehicle.

That's a cool site. Looking under my truck today I noticed a little leak by the trans. It looks like it might be coming from the torque converter in that area by the pan. I checked the level and it was fine that's when I noticed it was red and smelled a little burnt. Is there a way to check the torque converter to see if it is going bad

A torque converter is a tough one to pin point. A couple of symptoms are shuddering sound, overheating, high stall speeds. Real dirty fluid. As a rule they usually last, it's the internals of the transmission that fail, i.e. Clutches, bands, pumps and seals. Hope that helps.

It sure does. I think when I drop the tranny pan to do the filter I will install a drain plug into the pan so I can do fluid changes more often and easier

Hard to believe your year doesn't have one. I guess Ford figured it cost too much to install one. You might look into if the earlier ones like mine will fit yours. Drilling and tapping a plug in is not as easy as you think. Does anybody know on the forum can he get an earlier pan to fit his trans? Or maybe an aftermarket company makes one. Check how much a new dealer one is, if you don't want to trudge wreckers.
