There is a post or two on this forum debating LED vs HID low beams. Look for it. The general consensus is the HIDs are brighter with better spread through the projector lenses.

IMHO, DRL are a GM and Toyota thing. Probably 20% of the GM DRL around here have one bulb burned out...

Good luck and look through some of the older posts. Much of your questioning has been questioned and debated multiple times in this forum.

I think Andy might be referring to the Plug & Play LEDS I and some others installed. There are as bright as the HID's in my SLK....yes my SLK is 15 yr old but I'm rather happy with the LEDS and the cost for me was under 35 bucks for the set...beware though, the manual states H11 for low beams and they aren't...they are HB3's!

I'm disappointed Ford continues to ignore DRLs in this truck. Will the F150 module work? Alternate? Somehow I don't trust the $18 Ebay kits. :) Some has gotta fitted DRLs here. All my other cars have them including my '06 S2000.

DRL's are an on/off setting in the body control module. Dealer can toggle the setting and often will do so without charge when you are getting other service done. DRL was a $45 option on my non-fleet 2008.

If you or somebody you know has Forscan, go to bdyCM and DRL setting is adjustable there.

No I was referring to the HIDs I installed. In one of the discussions where we were way off topic I posted a picture of the stock Halogens, the LEDs that I tried, and the HIDs that I finally installed.

Incidentally the left hand HID went out on me. I noticed it yesterday. I have to call them and get another bulb under warranty.

Bummer, good to know since I bought the same brand. How many hours did you have on the bulb. Seems odd it burned out so soon in summer. Thanks Andy.

Not very many hours at all. I hardly drive at night. If I had to guess I'd say less than 10 hours. The good news is they have a lifetime warranty. I have to go through the troubleshooting procedure to identify if its the bulb, the igniter, or the ballast. In the mean time I ordered the 35 watt kit and I'm going to drop down from 55 watts.

Real deflation! Do you think the bulbs are being overpowered? I love the light thrown from the 55w kit I have. Will the 35w kit have same intensity or is the bulb included in the 35w kit a differently rated bulb? I admit I am not knowledgeable on the power level options available, so any edification would be appreciated!

From chatting with Chloe today I think it is the same bulb, they just drive it harder with the 55W kit. The difference in lumens between the 55W kit is 4200 vs. 3600 for the 35W kit. I'm not sure how noticeable it will be. I had a 35W kit on my 05 with the stock headlights and it threw all kinds of light. I know the projectors don't throw as much light to start with so I'm not sure if there will be a lot of visible difference between the 35 and 55. We'll see. Either way, I'll have both and I can always switch back if I don't like the 35s.

Once I get the new kit I will be able to compare the numbers on the bulbs.

Andy, you are a true pioneer/explorationist! You would make a great exploration geologist in your next life!!

Keep us posted on what results you observe. I get it that the bulbs are identical and being driven by higher wattage would definitely increase the bulb stress. Kind of like the difference between a 35W normal person and a 55W meth head.... :Good or Bad:
