I had Cruise Control issues on my 2005 FX4. On mine it would try to work but kick out right away.
I turned out that the brake light switch needed to be removed and contact points cleaned. Has worked ever since with no problems.

Just to throw in, I drive a Ford transit van part time these days, had one about 2 weeks back that had the tire pressure switch lit up on dash, and cruise behaved fine. As we've stated till blue in the face, guys test suspect switches/relays or whatever is suspect. We're trying to make techs, not parts changers out of you guys. All the under 40 crowd here is so computer savvy, every test , procedure is right in front of you, just Google it. Back when I was wrenching in the day we had to buy or borrow the repair manual for that vehicle. All the test procedures are right at your second finger. Moose's rant for the day!

Sorry, haven't been on for a couple of days. Weekends are busy. I would be interested in where to find the diagnosis procedures. Sorry for the late response, I don't ****. :)
