I looked into the ZINC sacrificial "thing" and it seems to not be viable. Its used in water heaters, sailboats, many places ... so I might have come to the wrong conclusion? However, if all you had to do was bolt a mass of metal to your frame to solve corrosion, wouldnt that be routinely done? There are some galvanized parts on the Expy in key locations so that seems to work in those spots.

OK ... its a BEATER so I have nothing to lose and curiosity got the better of me. I random orbit 60 grit sanded the fugly area (and beyond) and this is result. Now I can drive it for a year and see what it looks like next year. No top coat. I "could" do the entire hood in about and hour, unlikely but possible - without even removing it. Sun is bright this morning. The paint area is specular reflection (mirror) and the 60 grit aluminum is very diffuse reflection so it might actually be easier on the eyes while driving into sun. I might go over one side with finer grit and polish just to extend the test case. A careful job of sanding (or blasting) specific areas might look a lot better than that paint bubbling nonsense.

BTW ... in the bright sun it has a metalflake appearance with all the component colors reflecting at the grain level. Kind of cool.

Hmm I didn't know this was a issue. Now that I think about it there's some small bubbles on our hood as well. I thought it was a spot that was touched up by the dealer. FYI Its a 2016 With 50,000+ miles.

I have a 2015 Expedition King Ranch EL and the paint on the hood is bubbling and peeling. I checked with the dealership and Ford told them the issue isn’t covered because corrosion has to go through the aluminum. We have been loyal Ford owners for over 25 years and are very disappointed in the response. I plan to call customer care and continue up the chain until something is done.

I have a 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 that began paint bubbling on the rear hatch before the base warranty expired. Same answer - the corrosion has to perforate the panel.

I figured out how to avoid this problem in the future - never buy another Ford with an aluminum panel.

Is there a substance you can put on your hood that will eat through the aluminum and perforate the leading edge of the panel? Maybe that’s the answer.
