Hi all,

One of my kiddos appears to have dropped something into the vents on top of the dash in my expedition. I can hear it rolling around every time I turn. I'm decently handy and have done brake work, engine work, etc, but have never messed with partially or fully pulling a dash.

1. I'd like to just pop the registers out and see if I can see anything and possibly fish it out. How hard is this to do? I've done some research and haven't found much but I don't think it should be that hard.

2. If I do have to pull/move the dash some to get at the ducting, can anyone provide a good set of instructions? I've been searching a lot and really haven't found much.

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to the site.

You will be farther ahead getting the factory service manual for dash removal steps. It also includes diagrams of the climate control ducting - let's you determine if the plenum box needs to be opened. This is the same as replacing a heater core on the 1st gens, about an 8hr job.

Stamp,

Thank you for the answer and welcoming me to the site. What is the most economical way to get the factory service manual? Will Haynes or Chilton type manual be sufficient?

Also, how about question 1? How tricky are the vent registers to pop out? I'm assuming they aren't that difficult but I haven't tried yet or looked at them to try to figure it out.
