Long story short, I backed into a tree, tree fell, nice clean '09 eddie bauer totalled. It was in the shop, parts ordered, about to be fixed, then Progressive called me to say they revised the estimate and it's totalled. They agreed to $9,750, or $1500 less if I keep it. It has 165,000 on it, and runs and drives very well, needs windshield, both drivers doors, hatch, and body work along the side and roofline. I wouldn't make any money fixing it cheap and selling it, but it does have a good 5.4, transmission, 17" wheels with good Michelins, good interior... The more I think about it, the more I think that I'd be foolish to let it go. I already purchased an immaculate '14 EL Limited with 88,000 on it, so that's taken care of. Opinions? I had been thinking I'd just let them have it, but the more I think about it, the more it seems like it is worth keeping...

You answered your own question - “I wouldn’t make any money fixing it cheap and selling it, .....”.

You were paid for the vehicle and have purchased a replacement vehicle.

Unless you are bored and have a bunch of time to fix the vehicle, just let it go.

Good luck.

I wasn't thinking of fixing it, just keeping it on hand for parts... Decisions, decisions... The main thing that started me thinking of keeping it was the cost of another set of wheels to put some snow tires on... But yeah, I may be better off not complicating life.

Let
It go,
Save the $1500 towards your next deductible. They’ll be raising your rates shortly too.

Erie offered us a similar deal for my wife's Mazda and we kept the car. However, she managed to total it without causing any mechanical or frame damage, so we just pocketed the $7500 (would have been $9K if they had taken the car) and left the car as-is. Anyway, if you hadn't purchased the other truck already, I would have suggested putting some serious thought into keeping it. Since you already bought the new ride though, I would just let it go.

The car being used for parts will become a burden and a repetitively heated subject with the wife real quick, save yourself a huge headache and move on...

Here, Elsa from the movie frozen is telling you to let it go too.... matter of fact she sung you a whole song about it

I agree let it go! About a year ago my wife got into an accident with her Trailblazer EXT, and all damage there is, is a ding in the bottom drivers side rear door, and the plastic trim in front of the rear tire... They totalled it, gave us $4200 for it, and bought it back for $700 plus a $500 deductible. So they paid me $3000 to drive longer. Wasn't worth anything beforehand (2006 trailblazer EXT 2wd, LS with very few options-bought it new), it runs and drives perfect.

In your case when it needs all the work, let it go... It sucks because you probably are attached to it, and has been a great SUV for your family. I understand, I get attached too... But its for the best to let it go.

I would suggest my friend, that you are one of a very small number of people, that has that particular story to tell.....out of 7 billion. I do feel for you but it's also funny as heck! LMAO

I sure hope that you get "well" with your financials but losing a well kept truck is more than sheer books values since it involves long term reliability and reduced investment potential.

Good luck,

jeff
