How many washers do you have between the head and hitch bar? I have 4 washers... Front end seems a little high, thinking about adding a 5th washer? Curious to know what you guys have? I don't have the load leveling suspension on my 2003 either.
I have the fastaway E2 which is essentially the same as the equalizer ( same manufacture). Mine was originally set up for my suburban that we traded in on the Expy. It had 5 washers set by the installer. I have had no luck with getting it dialed in on the Expy I have a 1/2 dip in front of trailer to back and 1/4 return to front well. Does not handle well over 60 MPH and huge pull when trucks go by. worked great on the suburban though. I am actually taking in and having it switched out tomorrow with my old Reese "Strait- Line" WD. twice now I have gotten ito situations on back roads that the bolt on brackets on the camper have hit the ground and moved allowing the bars to come off and swing freely.
I'm not certain on my count. I used all of the washers that came with it. 4 is their minimum, 8 is the max, so if you need more, add more. I think there is a good chance I used 8 for my 7000# max trailer which is tongue-heavier than most.
I thought the washers were for the angle of the tow ball (slightly downward). I thought the height of the trailer tongue was adjusted with using the multiple holes on the hitch bar.
It is... We are talking about the front and rear height of our vehicles when towing our trailers. Adding more washers to the head, then in turn slopes the head down which would also turn the openings for the spring bars down vs being more horizontal, which would give more tension on those bars to bring the back of my Expedition up and front end down. Will be trying an additional washer this spring.
I used all 5 washers that came with my hitch, as reccomended in the instructions. I put some mighty spring tension on those bars to level my expedition with max tongue weight on the ball. I use my power tongue jack to lift the trailer and back of expedition (after latching the ball). It's still tough to get the bars on with the supplied pry bar but the truck sits perfectly level once done. And goes down the road with very little movement with a 29ft trailer behind it, even at 75-80mph (normal tow speed is 70 but sometimes the turbos run away from you if you're not on cruise control and just keeping up with traffic).
@coolzzy, can you post a pic on what your set up looks like hooked up? I think I should change my hitch to a equalizer because I have a mean squat in the rear.
This is fully loaded with fresh water tank full, 2 inflatable paddle boards, generator and firewood in the back of the expy, but no kids on board. Keep in mind the front wheel arches are higher than the rears so it can tend to look like a little squat but it's not really.
