I’m assuming the E4OD has a drain plug?
Kind of... It drains quite well when you take the pan off. :angels25:

However you can choose to suck from a small hose down the dipstick tube so it's not such a mess when dropping the pan.

My trans dipstick, had a small rust hole. The trans shop had trouble refilling. There is a plug on the torque converter. Drained about 13 qts.

If the E40 is like the 4r100 like mine, it has both a drain plug on pan, and a small one on torque converter.

Thought I’d add this, on 6R75&80 transmissions (2007+) ford specifically advises against flushing. The manual states the transmission can not be flushed as it has a thermostatic bypass valve and will not allow flush machines to swap the fluid. Ford also says flush machines use bulk fluid not specified for the trans. The official procedure is to drain (drop) pan, change filter, and refill. The pans on these trucks hold a lot (about 8 quarts) on the 6R at least. You are getting 70% fresh fluid. Flushing can loosen harmful deposits, you don’t want that.

Glad to hear this! Maybe we will eventually get away from this insane trend of flushing that was invented to charge more money for less work.

The dipstick tubes on the First Generation trucks tend to rust and get holes in them. Check them before you dump the pan, or you may not be able to refill it. I've patched mine with JB Weld, which worked very well.

I'm still not okay with the missing dipsticks on the later models. That sucks and I won't soon forgive Ford for their penny-wise bullsh!t that burned the flesh off my hand.
