Has anyone put an aftermartket in their ride?

If so are you satisfied with it?

I have not but have pondered doing this and am interested in what people have done and are satisfied with.

I usually get bored and cut up the factory air box and sometimes put a k&n or similar air filter in. I know they are not really good filtering filters so on cars I put a normal amount of miles on I usually us a factory style.

Hello. Have you done this yet? If so, what specifically did you buy/ do? I’m looking to do a tune, have heard about 5 star, but that’s about it. I’m just looking for a quick answer on what to do. I’d rather not change out anything else, but could do the air intake if necessary. I’m not looking for a drag strip racer, just something to get the full potential out of my engine 400 hp +.

I remembered watching a a Jay Leno episode awhile back with a chief engineer from Ford. And he stated, well just watch the video I dug up. Starts on air box conversation around 4:45.

There are a few threads on here about tuning if you go a few pages back. Several people on here have done a couple different tunes all with good results.

Who said K&N are not good filtering filters??? I have them on everything including off road and construction equipment. When I buy a new vehicle that is the first thing to go. I bought the '16 Expy and ordered a K&N that same week. The stock filters go in the K&N box stored on a shelf for use when the K&N gets cleaned.

I like them too. Not bashing. I have repeatedly seen tests where they do let more dirt though than a standard filter which filters even better (as all do) when they get dirty.
NOW, how much dirt is too much and what ration lever is acceptable to give/take relationship of filtration vs performance.....each owner's opinion may vary.

I know for a fact that an airbox mod (just cutting out sides and snorkle tube into fender restriction) and a K&N on a 98 Durango improved around town MPG by a bit over 1.5.

I will reserve judgement on his comments about you won't get any improvements in power over stock air box.
It'r really not me. It's just than many more times than not, what the pros say or the manufacturer, industry, medical community, govt etc SAYS is the proven scientific BEST or WORST.....end up being proven (but usually only quietly stated) as being absolutely incorrect.

So --We'll see about that.
