Hello everyone I was looking at different types of accessories you can buy for the Expedition on the official ford parts website I happen to come across these stainless steel door sill plates 8L1Z-78132A08-A that illuminates for the front doors. I thought these would be very cool and unique if I installed them on my Limited Expedition. Has anyone here ever did this install or knows how difficult Is it to install them? They look like they have a connector on the end of the wires maybe all Expedition’s has the Connections ready to go for these? Just curious because depends where you buy them they are not cheap . Any information would be helpful thanks !

I didn't know that these existed. Pretty neat! It would be awesome if the connector was already there and you just needed to plug them in, but I dont think that is the case.

I found this video - I cant imagine it would be a much different install.

The Ford OEM ones are top quality. They install with double sided tape and wire into the fuse box. You run the lead up the weatherstripping and under the dash. The come on with the dome lights when you open the door.

Do you have them or seen them installed? I'd love to see some pics of the ford one's.

Plenty are shown with a Google illustration search. They are the same ones as the Escape, Edge and most other Fords, with a different word on them of course. I've seen them on an Explorer and they look good.

There's a pair on ebay for $50 but the guy says the leads are only a few inches long, which means they have been cut or something. He said they have "filaments coming out of them," whatever that means. But they still have the unused tape on them so they haven't been installed. Sounds like your kind of deal Gixer.

I know you like these projects as do I. Some of the OEM panels have multiple leads that can be switched/combined to change the illumination color. I couldn't find a manual for these Expedition ones, so I don't know if they have two leads or many. If the wiring on the ones he's selling has been all goobered up with the insulation pulled off it, you'll have a challenge. Price is right.

I installed these sill plates shortly after getting our new 2012 KR. There's no plug and play connectors. You have to find the proper wires in the wire bundle coming out of the fuse box on the passenger side kick panel. I posted pictures but the image hosting web site went out of business. I may still have them. All in all, took about 3 hours as I measured twice and cut once.

I think a few users said they had the ford ones installed and they sucked. I recall hearing the lighting was blue and not white as advertised and that they stratched and got ruined easily. I posted a thread on this last year and everyone who bought them hated them so I stayed away.
