Hello,

My 2007 Expedition, while running great at 225,000 miles, must be near the end?

At this point I have to consider something bad will happen as NOTHINg bad has happened other than replacing the Water Pump at $600 dollars. I've probably put no more than $2000 into it from 85,000 miles, when I bought it, till now at 225,000 miles.

It's been a great truck. Dependable and comfortable, but I realize it can't last forever.

Where do you guys look on-line for the best prices? I look at Carsforsale.com, but I realize those are mostly dealers thus over-priced.

Ideas?

I wouldn’t say it’s near it’s end but you will have to start throwing money at it sooner or later to keep it rolling. Now is a good time to jump ship I agree. Mine is at 173k, I’ll likely keep to 200k give or take. Then jump into either another Expedition or a Suburban.

Car gurus is a good site for checking.

I use Cargurus also, at least to get an idea of what's out there. You can also search eBay and use Search Tempest to search Craigslist within your chosen distance radius. Of course there are also auctions.

If going to a dealer, stick to the basic rules. Talk bottom line, not payments, fees, interest, trade-ins, etc. "I will pay X dollars plus tax. Period." Pre-approved financing will always get you a better price on the vehicle, especially if you have a cashier's check in hand. Be prepared to walk if they don't meet your price. Nine times out of ten you'll get a call in a day or two agreeing to your price (unless your offer was completely unreasonable). Try to work in some extras, like a new set of tires. Make your trip to the dealer when there's a little extra incentive to get some sales on the books before the fiscal period ends (end of month, end of quarter, end of year, etc.). And of course, get everything in writing. When I purchased my truck I said I will pay X including CPO. Ultimately, the dealership agreed to it, but tried to snake me on the CPO by not putting it in writing. The manager kept trying to get me to sign saying "Yeah we know it's CPO." Nope, in writing MF'er. :)

New or Used? I use autotrader, cargurus, craigslist and carmax. Carmax being the highest priced but you can look at all their dealerships for an idea of supply.

I also look at the used inventory of local dealerships. I've gotten 2 really good Toyota trucks that way. If they sound like what you want and no pics go look. New trade in!

I lean toward dealers that have the carfax online for the used vehicles so I can eliminate the ones from rust belt states.

Craigslist is my all time favorite but the vast majority are going to be listed on facebook marketplace.
Be aware that the quality of sellers on marketplace can be very low.
Craigslist people is not usually their first trip to the rodeo. They want the sale now and want the money. They are available when you want to see it. It is clean and vacuumed and all their stuff is out of it.

Marketplace has 10 times the selection but many times when you get there they are dirty, looked like the last time they were vacuumed was 2005, full of car seats, strollers, junk and sometimes bubble gum wrappers or lollipop wrappers and sticks.

When you show a car, it should be presentable as possible and you should be there with a title ideally already signed ans notarized ready to take the money and hand them the keys.

Just did this is 220 miles away on Tues. Checked car out for about an hour or so. Agreed on price. Looked at title. Filled out 2 copies of a bill of sale...paid the man and left.

This was marketplace and last one I bought was also but a dealer that lists all on marketplace.
Most dealers are doing this now so you will get huge selection on there.
