Does anyone else notice cold starts on the 5.4L that their fan clutch rips and sounds like an aircraft? On cold starts it sounds like a plane taking off and then it goes to normal, it’s only in the 40s here in NY. I normally hear the clutch engage in the summer with the AC on pulling away from lights....you can hear it in the cab. Not sure why it rips on cold starts, or is it just me here?

Seems ford designed it to do that for some reason.

My 2000 is pretty loud, until it kicks off the high idle. I think that's normal on the 1 st edition 5.4's. After all the trouble Tom had a few months back with his clutch fans, until mine shoots through the radiator, it stays put.

They seem to fail in the “engaged” position. Just wait till that happens. You think it’s loud in cold starts, just wait until you’re on the highway and it’s still engaged.

I didn’t have good luck with part store replacements- even the more expensive ones.
