Ok.. I've joined the EXPY family and I just came back from the shop with a Mobile 1 synthetic oil change.

I will be taking a 4 week trip in June. I can't do any maintenance so Im at the mercy of paying a shop.

What other items in preventive maintenance should I have a shop do now at 85K miles. I'm looking to drive this thing to 150K miles.

Thanks,

Charlie

Definitely spark plugs. Besides that...transmission fluid flush, air filter, serpentine belt, maybe the belt tensioner, check the idler pullies for play, etc.

For that trip, especially on a new-to-you truck, I'd do the brakes.

If the battery is more than 3 years old, replace that too.

Then just give it a good once-over for anything that looks off. The heater hose running over the passenger side bank of spark plugs like to get brittle and leak. Dorman makes a great replacement that uses a metal T fitting rather than plastic, and it's cheaper than OEM. If you're getting that replacement, it's a good time to install a new thermostat since you'll be draining some of the coolant anyway. It's just cheap insurance.

150k is not a lot of miles on these trucks. You'll easily get that and more out of it if you stay on top of maintenance.

Good luck with your new truck, Charles; it should give you many happy and safe miles. You'll have no trouble seeing 150K with this guy.

As Mjp says above, change the plugs and check the tee in that heater hose above the passenger side of the engine for a leak. Changing the belt and checking (if not replacing) the tensioner and pulley is also good insurance for a long trip.

Thanks Guys... Quick question if I have them change the Spark Plugs should I change the coils too? What is an estimate I might pay for Plugs and Coils.

Thanks/

Like the others said, 150k is nothing. I have 173k on my 08 and wouldn't be afraid to drive across the nation tomorrow.

Coils aren't really considered a maintenance item. You could do new boots on the coils (I did) but other than that I'd say leave the coils unless you have a misfire.

What a nice feeling that delivery mustve been. I had a black 17 XLT EL on order from Carvana with 201a package. But I took my wife to local dealer to test drive a 15 Plat and the rest is history.

Congrats and many safe enjoyable miles to you.

My Carvana experience went really well and I went with delivery to the house as I was about 90 miles from the Atlanta Vending Machine. I got a very fair price on my trade-in and I used my credit union for the financing. The Expy price was great and the carfax showed it was taken care of and I had a $500 off voucher from a friend. Which if someone needs one from me I still have a few available. Then I got a Volvo XC60 for my wife and again everything went well.

The best part I never stepped into a dealership and have to deal with a salesperson.
