I have had my 2016 EL XLT for 16 months now. About half a dozen times the seatbelt has just suddenly come undone. 4 of them on my commute.

Any thoughts on what I should check and/or replace?

Dorzak, when you state that the seatbelt “suddenly come undone”, are you saying that the male end of the seatbelt clip (from the driver’s side belt) unlocked on its own from the female attachment near the center console while you were driving?

If so, based on your Expy’s age, you may still be under warranty, and Ford should fix this as a safety item. Either way, get your Expedition to a Ford dealership ASAP, and explain to them your issue. Hopefully your seatbelts work as advertised until then!

That's not cool.

If you fully buckle the belt and pull on it, can you easily unbuckle it without pushing the button?

Also, if it only happens on one side, get a flashlight and check inside the buckle slot for coins or something. For comparison, look at the other side and see if you find any obvious differences.

I had a 2001 Escape back in the day and Ford issued a recall for the seatbelt buckles, saying that there was a possibility of buckling the belt but not having the buckle fully engage. (Link) AFAIK, there aren't any recalls for the 2016s, but weird things happen.

Hopefully this goes without saying, but do not drive the truck if you feel it's unsafe.

That's whack ...wth?, the belts unbuckling by themselves could indicate the presence of a poltergeist or the all time fav fallback to poltergeist....Aliens!
