Aside from the shake test, how can you tell if shocks are worn out? I have a 2010, and shocks may be factory. Bounces 2-3 times on shake test and has a solid ride. No apparent leaks or ruptures. Thanks

As a rule, shocks are recommended changing every 25-35k miles Struts about every 50k. But with part and labor prices these days, a lot of owners go double those numbers. Bottom line, if their not leaking, and your your tires are keeping solid contact with road, and tires aren't cupping or scalloped, your ok. Ride quality will diminish, but that's no big deal. A proper working strut or shock will bounce one time, and stop. 3 times is worn.

Sounds doable. Thanks. What about a slight bounce or shift when coming to stop? Seems like some of it comes from tires.

That's a sign it's getting worn. Keep in mind springs wear too. Most shops tell you only to change springs when they bend, break, or sag, not true. People don't realize that the springs give the ride, either springy and new feeling, or stiffer for off road. The shock/struts job is to keep the tires planted on the road. Shocks/struts help somewhat with ride quality, but it's actually the springs mostly.

I have had both and Bilstein gives better ride, better handling and better cornering on the road and light off road for me.( and that is just dirt roads because I live in the country)
