Hi Everyone,

I bought a 2013 Limited 2wd that has factory navigation sync. Neither the USB or AUX inputs in the center console are working. The bluetooth connection also does not work. Some more on the bluetooth:

1. Hit phone button on the radio, it says nothing is connected.
2. Go to connect, it shows a screen that should have a code, but the code is blank.
3. We fiddled with this at the dealership when we purchased it, and we were able to get the code after about an hour.
4. The bluetooth stopped working when they delivered it, and I have not been able to connect since.

The USB has no power and the AUX option does not show up in the menu when you hit the media button.

Using voice to request AUX does not work and the lady tells me it is unavailable.

Right now, I am using the rear aux inputs to feed sound to the radio.

I am thinking the Sync module is fried. I took the center console apart and got the part number, which is:

CE5T-14D212-AC

When looking around online, it looks like there are many comparable parts with different part numbers, but I have found one that is an exact match. I have seen that the dealership will have to flash a replacement, but maybe I can use Forscan to do the same.

I am debating if it is worth the price to get a new part and then have it flashed, especially since it seems that these things seem to have lots of problems, but this is my first car with factory GPS, and if the inputs worked I would love to keep the system.

Does anyone know if getting the exact same part number will be a plug and play? If a used part needs to be flashed anyway, is there a more recent comparable version that fixes some of the hardware bugs?

I don't mind getting a new head unit if I can keep the reverse camera, rear seat controls, rear seat heaters, and all that good stuff.

Hopefully someone can help me out, I have read every search result on APIM and Sync 1, which is what I believe I have in the system.

Thanks

I spent the weekend searching, both online and in person at a local scrap yard. When searching out the part number I need to replace, it looks like the AA to AD will be comparable. I read one thread discussing the APIM and someone has said the same. In the part number:

CE5T-14D212-AC

CE5T = prefix, these can't be mixed around, major revisions cause this to change

14D212 = Part number

AC = suffix, this is incremented for minor improvements.

I really wish I knew what each "improvement" for this model does, but I have yet to find the right set of words to google to see the changes.

Ordered an ELM327 USB adapter with MS-CAN/HS-CAN switch, arrived today.

Got FORScan and used a link provided by FORScan to get my as built by data.

Tomorrow I will figure out how to query the as built by data that is loaded into my APIM so I can maybe notice something out of whack that would cause the errors I am having.

If anyone sees this and knows, is it possible that the sync or voice communicatoins module was already replaced but has not been programed so the As Built data is telling it that there is no usb, no bluetooth, and no aux inputs for the center console?

Probably wishful thinking, especially since I did get the bluetooth security code to populate into the box 1 time at the dealership (my phone connected that 1 time). Also, the gray service USB port didn't have any power, so I bet it is shot.

I will continue to post my progress.

All Right!

I looked at the APIM module options using FORScan and noticed that my Sync system only had 3 banks of options, and the options listed were the same as what were shown in my As Built file that I downloaded from the Ford website. This seemed promising, as there was only a very limited amount of options that I would have to verify and change if the swap didn't work out.

I ordered the EXACT same part from a salvage yard on Ebay. The part arrived today (along with my new VR system, but the Ford takes top priority), and since my center console was already taken apart except for the shift lever, it was a quick swap (a bit unconfortable, as I didn't disconnect the shifter knob).

I propped the bottom of the center console on the driver and passenger seatbelts, got up under the console and unbolted the old Sync module.

The new one was hooked up loose so I could test everything and everything just worked right out of the box!

I don't know if this would be the case had I purchased a CE5T-14D212-AA or
CE5T-14D212-AB
model, but the exact same part swapped quickly and works great.

It is odd, but the FORScan system said that it had seen instances of up to AF, I am unsure if this is just other countries with different languages or if this is something that would come out of a different vehicle.

I am off to put the center console back together, and then I am going to hit the audio/entertainment forum up to look for some new speaker suggestions.

I hope that my experience can help other people who have an inoperative USB port, AUX input, or can't get the code to hook up their bluetooth system. I have a feeling this would not have been so easy had this been a Sync 2 or 3, although those systems seem much more capable. All I really wanted was bluetooth and a place to charge my phone, but I do with that all the fancy Ford apps and what nots were still functional in the original Sync 1 system, it really is a shame that this system was not supported for more than 5 years, my 2013 is already dated and it isn't even 2020 :(

At least it seems like the Sync 2 can be upgraded to the 3, and hopefully having upgradable systems will be the norm if everything is going to be unsupported in 5 years or less.
