So, I take in my 2017 for regular service. Service advisor calls back and recommended I do a....and I quote: "Perform a mist air quality service to clean the evaporator and mildew in the climate control system." Gotta be honest, this is my 10th Ford vehicle in my life ( I am 56 yrs), have been to countless service departments (ret military so I moved a lot) and I have never heard of this "service". Sure, thing I said...no thanks.

What the heck is this...new "snake oil"?

What cost did the service advisor (salesman) quote?

A single-use bottle of MIST solution retails for about $13-$15.

Theory looks good. But makes me wonder how the world's population has survived breathing the air inside of a vehicle for over 100 years without this..

Just remember that the shop is likely getting money from commission ;)

Air Conditioner on max (re-circulation) mode, fan high, engine running and doors open/windows down.

Take a can of Lysol and spray it low into the front passenger footwell. Probably not a right or wrong way, but I spray 2-3 second blasts, pause for maybe 5 seconds, and repeat several times. We do this every few weeks in the spring/summer AC months.

Since the fragrance will be around for a few days, go with a scent you like. We do 'fresh linen' as opposed to 'doctor's office'.

Evaporators ARE a mold breading ground - dark damp location. Inhaling mold spores for most people is completely harmless. For others its very sickening. And has been since the early 50's Packard and Pontiacs started the movement - some ~65 years ago.
