I would like to have a hotspot in my 2017 Expedition. Does anyone know of it is possible to add WIFI to SYNC. I've read that some fords have WIFI built in form AT&T for $20/month.

You can Hot Spot with your cellphone or tablet. Sync 3 is WiFi capable, but it isn't cellular, so when you're out driving around, you need to be in range of a WiFi "server". Using your phone or tablet provides that service.

IIRC, the 2018s come with the ATT service.

17 or Older Expeditions did not come from the Factory with the built in Cellular Modem. If you have the roof antenna above the front passenger seat, then it can technically be added by the dealer. I don’t know of anybody that has had it done, because it would not be cheap. It is far more economical to use your phone.

Very few 17’s across Fords line had the option. The 17 Edges did not have it either.

The trial is only good for 3GB total, and the lower priced connected car plan is only 2GB per month. After that it goes down to a VERY low data rate. Unlimited follows AT&T’s regular plan restrictions. After 10GB you can be throttled if network congestion is high.

We just purchased a Harman Spark through ATT with unlimited data for$25 month and no contract. The Harman Spark was $79. It plugs into the OBD2 port. So far no issues and works great. Ford Sync3 connects to it also.

Verizon offers and in car system called HUMx that you can add on to your unlimited data plan for $5/mo
It has a somewhat useless phone speaker system that I guess you don't need to use. The speaker adds three emergency speed dials, roadside assistance, and auto call to 911 if it detects a crash. The wifi plugs in to the OBDC connector like the ATT offering. Works like champ in my travels all over the US. I stream music and my wife even watches movies. It's "nice" to have the wifi just be there and not always have to remember to turn on my cell phone hotspot when I get in the car and turn it off again when I get out.
