Today, I was driving my 2007 Expedition XLT 4x4 and it started sputtering/whole truck shaking like it couldn't make up its mind on gear maybe? Then the engine light started flashing. Only flashed for a few seconds and before i could pull over it stopped. Any thoughts?

Sounds like Ignition misfires. OBD Scanner should help you track it down to the bank, if not the cylinder. Plugs or Coils likely would seem like first place to start..

Was it the CEL or the wrench symbol that was flashing?

CEL was flashing. Can the OBD sensor show me that info if the light is no longer on?

It should be stored for some number of drive cycles. Flashing usually indicates Misfires, but the Check Engine light 'usually' will remain on after the incident until so many drive cycles have passed without it reoccurring.

That is for the info. The light flashed for about 90secs then went away and hasn't come back. Then I just found out about the damn service bulletin about the crap design of the spark plugs. My engine is in that time frame. FML

mine did the same thing about 10 days ago. cylinder #2 was misfiring. changed all the plugs and repkaced the #2 ignition coil and all is good. New plugs were gapped at .030 and all the original ones were .038 - .040. Engine seems to run a little smoother, and no more stumbles.
