Hi all,

Potential buyer, looking to consolidate our 18' 4runner and 18' Highlander to a Expedition. My wife recently acquired a company car and it just makes more sense for us to have something larger with more goodies than our 2 current vehicles. Right now we have 2 daughters, 1 of which is being fostered but close to adoption and we are on the waiting list for another child so the toyotas just won't even compare in practicality to the expy. The expedition checks so many boxes for us and has potential to accommodate growth for the family if we so choose to go that direction. :)

Right now I am struggling with CPO Platinum vs new Limited with a couple different packages.

My concern with new is do these hold their value well?... my concern with CPO is I typically try to avoid the first model year of any new body style.

I love the Stealths but man are they pricey lol, I don't want to spend over $70k and still not get the HD towing package (is this necessary for a couple UTVs, or totally overkill? PA is full of mountains lol)

301A with the special edition package seems like a good deal... does this come with CCD? If I go new this just feels like the best bang for your buck.

CPO is so tempting because I'm confident I can get them down around $61k on this one.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The platinum looks nice with only 9k miles om her. I would def make sure whatever gremlins it was traded for get fixed(assuming thats why its there lol). The plat does have its perks over the ltd models though like better materials and better overall quietness amd ambiance. Btw the 303 and 301 sep, id def go with the 301 sep. Way more value over the 303 with same features and ur only missing some light cosmetic work.

No. Their value plummets within the first few years ($20K+ drop).

my concern with CPO is I typically try to avoid the first model year of any new body style.

This makes sense with a new engine, trans, etc., but if only the body style has changed I wouldn't give it a second thought. (I haven't shopped the latest model, so I am simply saying if that's all that has changed. I don't know if that's fact.)

Ended up getting a silver spruce stealth edition lol. This dealer is really close to my house whereas the other places are about 40+ miles away and my wife and I would have had to load the girls in and drive separately just to get an actual appraisal on our yotas. They made the purchase very simple, gave me $1k more than I wanted on trade and came down $8k off of MSRP.

I worked on the CPO but they wouldn't budge on price so it was damn near within $3k of new stealth.

I'm sure it will depreciate like a rock (Chevy pun lol)... But I bought this with the intentions of keeping a long time and we absolutely love the expedition so I figure what the heck!

Ordered a few goodies, husky liners and weathertech mud flaps. Probably going to also order some vent shades and even though I hate them a bug shield :puke:

Should be arriving at the dealer on Thursday, will get some pics :)

Enjoy the new ride and welcome to the forum. Having been a multiple Toyota owner as well, Fords do lose value quickly but that's why I got mine used. That doesn't matter if you keep it over 10 years.

Unless you have money set aside for potential repairs as vehicles in general are getting very expensive to fix and Ford isn't Toyota in quality, I would recommend a Ford Factory extended warranty. It's called Ford protect. Any dealer can sell one. I bought mine online via Flood Ford. In the 3rd generation forum someone had one turbo replaced at 120K miles or so and it was over $3,000 (I think).

Good luck.

Thanks! And thanks for the heads up on the extended warranty, this is definitely something I will be purchasing in the future... Going to see how long I intend on keeping and what my mileage is /year then order before they 3/36k expires which I believe ive read that you can do. There are simply too many little things that can go wrong with these new vehicles not to have it... Money well spent imo!

Yes you can wait on the warranty. That's one of the reasons I bought the expedition used over others vehicles.

Congrats. My mom lives in the area and always uses Woltz & Wind. She is closer to Washington Ford though - Canonsburg North Strabane area.

For what its worth, our '08 was full of new tech at the time as well. $1995 navigation and $1295 rear seat entertainment, etc. Newfangled CAN-BUS, coil on plug, safety canopy, the rear view mirror alone would cost over a grand to replace. Everything old was once new applies here.

Rolled the extended warranty dice and won on this one, the truck has been 100% perfect for 10+ years and has required no repairs whatsoever outside of a drivers front window regulator. Hope yours does as well as mine has.

In the future I would advise against thinking like this. My first and last new vehicle purchase was a Ford Focus compact. I bought it because I needed a reliable vehicle for a long commute, and knew very little about vehicle maintenance at the time. The vehicle was flooded one year later during Tropical Storm Allison. Luckily, I put a substantial sum as down payment.

Depreciation seems like something that you recognize in the future, when you sell...but the future can arrive much sooner than you think. If your vehicle is ever heavily damaged, you will eat the depreciation immediately. For that reason, I would suggest gap insurance on a vehicle this pricey.
