I have a 1997 Eddie bauer expedition. 8 or 9 months ago I bought it from my father, who bought it brand new so I know its history. It only has 123,700 miles. It sat for a couple years before I bought it. So I had some work done to it, windshield, tires, coil packs, etc. The 4x4 and AWD worked great. Recently I had the air worked on and they had to remove the dash. When they put It back together the linkage for the shift indicator came off so now the truck is constantly in park. Ever since then the 4x4 and AWD hasnt worked. The lights come on on the dash when you start it up. But when you turn the 4x4 knob to any of the modes nothing happens. The lights dont come on, and it doesnt engage or make a sound. The mechanic said they shift thing and 4x4 arent associated with each other. I'm going to have him fix the linkage to where it works. But has anyone ever heard of this. Do you think it has to do with linkage or is a a big coincidence that it stopped working around the same time? Please help

I don’t know if it is tied to the linkage but it sounds like the knob is not connected right regardless.

At night, with the parking lights on, do you see the green background illumination on the 4WD switch?
